Concept document — not a legally binding agreement. Fieldtest Lab is currently in development.
Note
This is a concept document. Fieldtest Lab is currently in development and has no active users or agreements. These terms represent our intended approach once the product launches. They are not legally binding and should not be relied upon as such. A formal, attorney-reviewed version will be published before launch.
01
The service

Fieldtest Lab is a web-based tool that helps K–12 teachers pressure-test lesson plans against simulated student responses grounded in cognitive development research. It operates at fieldtestlab.io.

By using Fieldtest Lab, you agree to these terms. If you’re using the product on behalf of a school or organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.

These terms apply to all versions of the product, including Review Mode, Practice Mode (when available), and any future features.

02
Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Use a strong, unique password. Don’t share your account credentials.

You must provide accurate information when creating your account. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that appear to have been created with false information or for the purpose of abuse.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Fieldtest Lab is a professional tool for teachers and educators — it is not intended for use by students directly.

03
Your content

You retain full ownership of the lesson plans, materials, and other content you submit to Fieldtest Lab. We don’t claim ownership of your content, and we don’t use it to train AI models.

By submitting content, you grant us a limited license to process it for the purpose of providing the service — specifically, passing it to our AI provider to generate simulations and analysis. This license ends when you delete the content or close your account.

Please do not include personally identifiable information about real students in materials you submit. Fieldtest Lab is designed for teacher preparation, not student records management.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit any content you upload, including lesson materials derived from copyrighted curricula or third-party resources.

04
Acceptable use

Fieldtest Lab is built for K–12 teachers preparing lessons. You agree to use it for that purpose and not to:

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the underlying AI models or simulation logic
  • Submit content designed to generate harmful, abusive, or inappropriate outputs
  • Use the service to process or store personal data about students in violation of FERPA, COPPA, or applicable privacy laws
  • Resell or redistribute access to the service without our written permission
  • Use automated tools to submit content at scale beyond normal individual teacher usage
  • Attempt to circumvent usage limits or access features not included in your plan

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms without notice.

05
AI-generated outputs

The archetype simulations, confusion scores, rewrite suggestions, and other outputs generated by Fieldtest Lab are produced by AI and are intended as preparation aids, not authoritative assessments.

We ground our archetypes in published cognitive development research, but the outputs are simulations, not clinical or psychometric instruments. They are useful for lesson planning. They are not a substitute for professional judgment about individual students.

Fieldtest Lab outputs should not be used to make decisions about individual students, track student performance, or generate records that could affect a student’s educational experience.

AI outputs can be incorrect or misleading. We work hard to make the simulations accurate and useful, but we make no warranty that any particular output is accurate, complete, or fit for a specific purpose. Use your professional judgment.

06
Plans and billing

Fieldtest Lab intends to offer a free tier with limited monthly fieldtests and a paid Pro plan. Specific pricing and plan details will be confirmed at launch.

For paid plans, billing will be handled through a third-party payment processor. You authorize us to charge the payment method on file at the start of each billing cycle.

You can cancel your paid plan at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer prorated refunds for partial months, but we’ll consider exceptions in cases of technical failure on our part.

We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days’ notice. If you’re on an active paid plan when pricing changes, the new pricing applies at your next renewal after the notice period.

07
Termination

You can close your account at any time from your account settings. When you close your account, your content will be deleted from our active systems within 30 days and from backups within 90 days.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, engage in abusive behavior, or if we discontinue the service. We’ll give you reasonable notice where possible, except in cases of serious violations.

If we discontinue the service entirely, we’ll give users at least 60 days’ notice and provide a way to export your saved content before shutdown.

08
Limitation of liability

Fieldtest Lab is provided as-is. We make no warranties, express or implied, about the accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose of the service or its outputs.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising out of or related to your use of Fieldtest Lab is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages of any kind, including lost data, lost revenue, or harm resulting from reliance on AI-generated outputs.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow the exclusion or limitation of certain types of damages. In those places, our liability is limited to the minimum extent the law allows.

09
Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves. For significant changes, we’ll notify active users by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the service after that point constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

If you disagree with a change, you can close your account before it takes effect and we’ll delete your data per the process described in Section 7.

We’ll maintain a changelog of material updates to these terms so you can track what changed and when.
